Step 1
The Pen Tool rests next to the Line Tool and can active
by pressing “P” from keyboard or clicking on the Pen
Tool icon
in
Toolbar. The mouse pointer will reshape to

Step 2
Like using the Line Tool just click on some point move
mouse to next and click again and to another point and
click and then move the mouse to from where you start
it.

Step 3
It is the basics of Pen Tool, from here we will go
further by using keyboard shortcuts and mouse for the
start.
The keys we about to use are
P, CTRL, and ALT along with the clicks and drags
While the “Pen Tool” selected the Pen Pointer
performs three tasks.
a) Start drawing a new path
b) Add new points to a path
c) Remove an Existing Point from the path
Add New Points
Move the pointer to LINE (between the two points and
over the path), and you will notice the change in
pointer. The x sign next to the Pen tool is changed to +
sign, this shows you are ready to Add a new point there,
click and add a new point.

Remove Points
Move the pointer to an existing point and notice
the change into Pen Pointer, it should be – now, you are
ready to remove a point, simply click on to that point
and it will be gone.

Reshape
Hold down the CTRL Key (while Pen Tool is
enabled), the Pen Pointer will change to White Arrow
Head Pointer, with it you can Select and Move the Lines
and Points.

In the example above we added two new points and move
their position to get this shape. Notice the additional two
points coming out from our newly added points. These are
to control the curves.
Converting the Points
If we need to convert a line into curve, we need to hold down the ALT key. You
will see no difference in Pen Pointer unless you will
move it on to an anchor point. Click and drag the
pointer and you will see the straight line will form
curve like shape.
And in need of converting a straight line into curve,
apply ALT CLICK on to the
point.
For more control on curves hold down ALT
key and Drag Curve Control Point.

TIP: You can select more then one point by Holding down
the CTRL and SHIFT while clicking to points.
Finish the “Illustration” or Shape or Path in term of
Photoshop by clicking the right button and Fill or
Stroke it with foreground color, do not forget to create
a new layer before filling.
Things to remember
Path doesn’t create on to the Normal Layers. Find the
Paths under Window – Paths

The almost final output of the same “Randomly”
created lines we started with. It could be better but
for now, we both need some practice to explore our
creative sides.
